Pure Inspiration

At the core of the belief of those who lead NBC Camps is there is a greater purpose we all have in life. There is a greater purpose because there is One greater than we are that loves and cares for us.

Eric Carlson shared part of his life story of the brokenness of his home as he was growing up. The brokenness of his mother spilled out onto his life, causing his own life to experience brokenness. But in that brokenness, he met the One who could take that pain, heal it and turn his tears into joy. For Eric, Jesus Christ brought forgiveness, hope and renewal in his life.

If you have seen E-Funks morning wake-ups for the campers, you can see that he lives an inspired life. That inspired life spills over onto everyone that comes within his influence. Pure Inspiration is about living a larger life of purpose that is powered by and lifted by the greater purpose of God.

Camper Letter - MUST READ

At every NBC Camp, one of the things the campers are encouraged to do is write a letter to someone who has had influence and impact on their lives. It can be a parent, friend, teacher, coach, grandparent - whomever has had impact. The campers have the option of letting the staff read the letter and, as difficult as it is, they choose one of the letters to share with the other campers as an example of Insight.

This year at NBC Rocklin, Victor Sutherland wrote a letter to his Dad and, with his permission, we would like to share it with you, as he wrote it.
"Dad,
When you came into the family you made a impact right away. Most kids don't get to choose their family, but Omar and I did. When mom started dating you she asked us for the okay and I know their was no doubt how much you loved us so I said yes. Right away you cared for us, provided for us, but more importantly, you loved us. You were not only my dad but my best friend.

That's why it hurt so bad to answer the door to only find out you had a one-way ticket to Iraq. But I didn't cry because I knew, and still know you are with me and the family. And above all you were in a better place, where there is no war, only love. That's one of the things you know how to give a 100%. Everyone that met you has changed...I know I have.

And so I wanna say thank you & sorry. Sorry for taking advantage of your great love and not saying that I love you enough. I know parents love to hear it. And thank you...for being my friend...my father...and paying the ultimate sacrifice so we wouldn't have to.

Love,
Victor E. Sutherland

Victor's attitude, leadership and life epitomize what we strive to develop in young men and women at NBC.

Victor's Dad is very proud of him, of that we are sure.

Day 3 Pictures

Pure Insight

What does it mean to have Pure Insight? Insight is the ability to see the obstacles in yourself and around you. Pure Insight sees the obstacles but also sees the solution. Pure Insight is being able to tell right from wrong, good from bad, adequate from best. Pure Insight is not living the life of a fool but rather living a life of wisdom.

We can be flooded with the challenges and problems of life and that can keep us from seeing things are they really are.

Look what the wise guy Solomon had to say about insight:

"The way of a fool seems right to him, but a wise man listens to advice."
"A fool finds pleasure in evil conduct, but a man of understanding delights in wisdom."

To be a person of Pure Insight is to be a person of HOPE.

H eart - Are you willing to learn? Is your heart in your dreams?
O ptions - Are you willing to see a different way? Everybody faces obstacles but we all have choices in how we are going to react. Do you have tunnel vision or do you have INSIGHT?
P ersevere - Are you willing to not give up? Perseverance sees things through to the end, even when it is tough. Lots of people never reach their potential because they give up.
E ncourage - Pure Insight isn't just about us, it is about making everyone around us better. Take someone with you. It will change your life and theirs.

What's Up On Day 3

This is Intensity Day at NBC Camp. The morning will be full of Skills Teaching and League competitions. The afternoon will have more Skills Teaching plus the first training session in developing your own personal workout plan.

The highlight of the day is going to be Intensity Night, with the challenge to push yourself beyond what you thought was possible.

The theme of the day is Pure Insight - the ability to recognize inner and outer obstacles that keep us from reaching our full potential and then the insight to make the corrections and changes that will lead us to excellence.

INTENSE-CITY!

Pure Integrity

When Coach Brett Lewis tells about starting to lead NBC Camps in N. CA, his answer to the question "Why did you do it?" is about as unique as can be found. "Because I didn't think I could do it!" He thought it would be too tough but it didn't stop him from trying!

Integrity is about being the same person when no one else is watching. To be a great player, it takes integrity. The greatest athletes leave a legacy and that legacy is judged more by WHO THEY ARE after the have shown what they can do. There are lots of men and women who were blessed with great giftedness in their athletic abilities. But they never were able to hold on to their integrity and their giftedness never turned into greatness. And sports is just a mirror of society as a whole.

Pure integrity doesn't let Apathy, Bitterness or Compromise destroy their full potential that was designed and created by God! Coach Lewis isn't perfect, but one of the most important character qualities he works for is to live a life of integrity - before his family, before his boss and, most importantly, before his God.

Be great. Be pure. Pursue integrity.

Monday Morning With E-Funk

Co-Director Eric (E-Funk) Carlson has a precious way to get the camp ready for the day. Watch this video and remember, at the end wave back to your kids!

Day 1 Pictures

Day 1

The theme of the 2008 NBC b-ball camp is "Pure." Over the next four days we will be exploring what it means to be a pure person when it comes to basketball but also to life. There are four critical aspects of being Pure.

Pure Impact
Pure Integrity
Pure Insight
Pure Inspiration

Pure Impact is about influence, effect, contact. It is all about recognizing what influence you have in life - on the court and off. What do you think - is your team better because you are on it? Not just in talent but in character. Are your teammates encouraged by your presence and better or is it all about you?

"You can never have an impact on society if you have not changed yourself...Great peacemakers are all people of integrity, of honesty, and humility." Nelson Mandela

If you are going to make an impact, you must have DIRECT IMPACT. This is all about the dramatic events and relationships that greatly influence us.

You must have CONSISTENT IMPACT. This is all about the daily discipline to do the things that will lead to your dreams and desires being fulfilled.

You must have INTENSE IMPACT. Everyone faces adversity in life. Those who have Pure Impact come out wiser, stronger, better because they don't let adversity beat them. They choose to be better, not bitter.

"Get around people who have something of value to share with you. Their impact will continue to have a significant effect on your life long after they have departed." Jim Rohn
